  • SRVC FW24

SRVC Fall Winter 2024 Collection. London, 17 February 2024 "This is the 217 to Turnpike Lane Station" is what the bus message would usually announce. Except these three TFL buses are out of service today because they are for SRVC (which is pronounced service). A rainy Saturday morning, boarding London's iconic red double-decker buses and not for the commute, but for a chic escape -- or rather a run(a)way. The brand's FW24 collection sets the scene by redefining the conventional dreaded feeling of commuting. Aside from being relatable for being on the run, the collection consists of uniform characteristics: wool co-ord sets, commanding shoulders, and asymmetrical, layered tailoring. The colour palette predominately plays on that of London's corporate 9:00am rush -- shades of blue, grey, brown and black. Serving office chic with a suitable travel twist, there are skirts with crew neck collar accents and buckles for adjusting the lengths. Of course there are also statement-sleeved button-up shirts with ties and form-fitting flared suit trousers. The collection and show is a welcome and refreshing arrival to this season of London Fashion Week. See it, wear it, sorted.

  • AHLUWALIA FW24

Ahluwalia Fall Winter 2024 Collection. London, 17 February 2024 Ahluwalia's Fall Winter 2024 collection summoned guests into a fantastical realm within Central Hall Westminster's soaring neo- Byzantine arches. As guests wove between trees dotting the venue, it felt like stepping into an enchanted storybook forest. Creative director Priya Ahluwalia immersed attendees in her reimagined world of Indian and Nigerian myths and folklore. Models emerged in silhouettes nodding to traditional saris and geles, like richly hued hooded wool dresses that draped fluidly across the body. Thin contrast inserts elevated the flow of tops and skirts, hinting at the collection's exploration of cautionary tales. Knit corseted bodices accentuated curves, while almond-shaped sequin motifs and pearlescent embroidery evoked regal embellishments found in the old world fables Ahluwalia drew inspiration from. She delved into Indian scriptures and Nigerian legends, blending fantasy and reality. Works from artists like modernist painter Jayasri Burman and Kelechi Nwaneri, who explores Igbo deities, informed the collection's tapestry jacquard prints and symbolism. Ombré denim referenced the Igbo practice of sacred body painting. Bespoke Levi's gowns incorporated wings and waves as metaphors found in folk narratives. As models emerged, they took on the air of mythological characters. Flowing chiffon sashes trailed behind them like supernatural auras. Voluminous satin trousers billowed around legs while crisply tailored bustiers nipped waists, merging the sensual and severe into chimerical contrasts. Tutus morphed into feathered underskirts, blooming like otherworldly flora. Ahluwalia reflected, "Reveries presents a singular version of an Ahluwalia fairytale." The venue's grandeur and ambient soundtrack by Tom Tripp heightened the mysticism. While looks floated by dreamily, meticulous techniques like felting and intricate corsetry anchored the craftsmanship behind the scenes. Rich fabrics like merino wool and organic cotton gave texture and depth to the storytelling. This collection revelled in revealing Ahluwalia's imaginative world. Her team brought this contemporary mythos to life through considered details from set design to soundscape. As models wove between trees, wearing looks that blurred fantasy and reality, Ahluwalia presented fashion's power to tell singular stories. She transported guests to realms of magic and possibility.

  • DAVID KOMA FW24

David Koma Fall Winter 2024 Collection. London, 17 February 2024 David Koma's Fall Winter 2024 collection summoned guests into an otherworldly realm within the cavernous depths of Ambika P3. This vast, disused concrete space was transformed through artful lighting and minimalist installations, evoking the feeling of stepping into an alien planet. Guests witnessed an avant-garde vision fusing sculptural shapes with maximalist embellishments, beckoning with alien glamour. Creative director David Koma immersed us in an imaginary world where modernist Pina Bausch meets digital artist Candela Capitan. The collection paid homage to both dance costumes and experimental tech-art through manipulated silhouettes. Voluminous satin trousers billowed around legs while crisply tailored bustiers nipped waists, merging the sensual and severe. Chiffon sashes floated behind models dramatically like wings. Tutus morphed into mini skirt underlays, blossoming with tiers of feathers - a futuristic echo of Rebecca Horn's kinetic sculptures. Sharp neoprene tailoring created razor-cut shapes, hugging curves like liquid metal. Sheer embroidered overlays refracted the light, adding ephemeral dimension. Vivid macramé gowns in hot pinks and electric lime emerald drew the eye down the runway with their uncanny glow. Models wearing sculptural tweed coats etched with fringed embroidery emerged like imperial officers from a galactic future. As David Koma reflected on "interplays between light and movement" – fantasy and reality fused in these forward-thinking fabrics interpreting classical forms. While garments seemed effortlessly sculptural, intricate craftsmanship glittered under closer inspection. Crystal mesh bodices, hand-pleated chiffon trains, laser-cut leather panels, and Swarovski-encrusted knits dazzled with otherworldly detail.
