COLOUR THEORY by Silvia Draz

Updated: Nov 11, 2019

The Spring 2019 runways were full of colour makeup looks in unexpected ways - makeup artist James Kaliardos at Rodarte had bright poppy red lips paired with bright pink eyeshadow, master makeup artist Pat McGrath painted the upper part of the face in orange and hot fuchsia at Anna Sui and Erin Parsons wrapped a bright metallic teal shadow all around the eyes at Alice + Olivia, proof that treating your face like an artist’s canvas is a trend that’s here to stay.

To get the intensity of colour, layer bright pencils with powders or use opaque cream products like MAC Chromalines or Makeup Forever Aqua XL shadows to dab in the creases of the eyes. Wear it on its own like a vivid blue lipstick or hot pink eyeliner, or create a clash with contrasting colours on lips or eyes. All the new amazing eyeshadow palettes that are out lend themselves to creative free expression. There’s no excuse for boring beige makeup this season.
