LE ROUGE ET LE NOIR by Natasja Fourie

Taking its name from 19th-century French writer Stendahl, Le Rouge et Noir is a billet-doux, a love letter to rouge from editorial makeup artist Lydia Warhurst and photographer Natasja Fourie, who explore this lipstick's lasting popularity and defining power. Its deep crimson evokes many emotions and expressions, from danger to sex, anger, love, and passion. More than makeup, rouge is pocket-sized but powerful, the beguiling colour of the ages, elevated to regal status by queens, a cue of feminine power on our screens—an alluring and enduring signal of self-expression and empowerment.
