ALYSON DUBEY

The fashion industry can be a formidable world for a newcomer. With so much competition, demanding hours and brands, photographers and designers expecting excellence, it requires a focus and determination to navigate it. Though Alyson Dubey is only at the beginning of her career as a model, she radiates confidence and consciousness about her work and her passions that is wiser than her years. Here she shares with us her life to date as a model, the challenges she has faced and overcome, and how she can use her work to positively influence other young women and the causes she advocates.

Words by Brian James and Leigh Maynard.

Styled by Esther Taylor. MakeUp and hair by Tom Fraser.

Tell us a bit about your background and how you became a model?

I was scouted by a local agency when I was fifteen, but I didn’t really do much. When I was seventeen, I got scouted again online, by my current agency. This summer I went out of the country by myself for the first time to work.

Which jobs have you worked on that have challenged you but also pushed you forward in your career?

I feel like I am challenged every day, but I enjoy a challenge. My first day of e-commerce was a shock but it was super fun and I learned a lot from it.

Which models do you aspire to, and why?

I really look up to Christy Turlington Burns, she uses her global recognition to push people to support many important causes that I support as well.

As a model, you are in a prominent position to influence others for good; how would you like to inspire your followers and other aspiring models?

I want to inspire my followers by being themselves and asserting the notion that people aren’t perfect. People need to remember that people only show what they want you to see on social media.

What qualities do you think a model needs to be successful?

Some of my qualities that I believe help me in this industry include just being nice, having your head screwed on right, being able to stand up for yourself and being able to trust so many people make decisions about your career.

What are you most passionate about, and are there any causes that are important to you?

I’m super passionate about natural habitats and their preservation. Climate Change is real and needs your attention!

You are quite active on TikTok. Is acting something you would consider as well as your modelling career?

I would love to act, I have some friends in the industry, but I don’t even know where to start.

As a model, it's essential to look after yourself. What do you do to maintain a healthy lifestyle?

I love eating healthy, but I also follow the 80/20 rule. I was vegan for nearly a year, I love to move my body and the outdoors; I’d say my main form of exercise is walking. I walk everywhere.

Is there any designer, brand or photographer you'd like to work with and why?

A designer I would love to work with would be Tom Ford, for obvious reasons hahaha. A brand would be Chanel. I absolutely adore everything they do, and it’s always been my dream to have a beauty contract with them. A photographer would be Steven Meisel or Arthur Elgort because they are geniuses and legends.

What are your hopes for the future?

My hopes for the future include some vogue covers of course, my family and friends all being safe and happy. Last but certainly not least, a cleaner planet!
