A Serene Sanctuary Awaiting on the Athenian Coast

Since the early 1960s, The Margi hotel has graced the Athenian Riviera, nestled in the elegant seaside enclave of Vouliagmeni. This sophisticated boutique retreat offers an oasis of understated luxury — an idyllic haven to unwind, rejuvenate, and indulge before setting off to explore Greece’s enchanting islands.

Words by Alton Hetariki.

Founded by Dr. Stavridis, The Margi was born from a dream to create an exclusive coastal sanctuary along what is now known as the Athenian Riviera. What began as a stylish complex of 18 apartments has evolved over three generations into a discreetly luxurious boutique hotel with 89 refined rooms. Still family-owned, Maria Stavridis and her son, architect Yiangos Agiostratitis, have brought a personal touch to every detail — blending curated art from around the world with cosy, elegant features like candlelit tables and plush furnishings. It's a relaxed luxury, rich in warmth and character.

The Margi’s design fuses natural materials — stone, wood, and woven textiles — with a palette of soft, earthy tones. Traditional handwoven rugs soften hardwood floors, and each space is thoughtfully curated to evoke a sense of refined quietude.

Outdoors, the pool area is a serene, sun-drenched escape. Plush sunbeds appear to float above the water, framed by olive trees and the gentle sound of birdsong. It’s a space designed for effortless relaxation.

The Premium Suite is the crown jewel of The Margi’s accommodations. Perched on the top floor, this open-plan sanctuary features elegant contemporary décor and a wraparound balcony with sweeping sea views. From the tranquil master bedroom, guests can gaze down on the glimmering pool. Upon arrival, a sweet welcome  awaits: delicate baklava pastries — a nod to Greek hospitality.

Mornings at The Margi are a celebration of abundance. With tables set poolside, the breakfast buffet overflows with fresh fruits, artisanal meats, flaky pastries, nourishing smoothies, pressed juices, and made-to-order eggs and omelettes prepared by the hotel’s chef.

For those seeking deeper rest and rejuvenation, The Margi Spa offers a quiet, cosy haven of wellness. Tucked within the hotel, the spa features three beautifully designed single treatment rooms, a serene couple’s suite, and a tranquil wet area complete with a steam room, sauna, and indoor pool — perfect for slipping into a slower pace.

Service is a hallmark of The Margi experience. From the moment guests arrive, they’re greeted by warm, intuitive staff whose friendly smiles, discreet attentiveness, and thoughtful recommendations elevate every stay with ease and charm.

Perfectly balancing understated elegance with cosy Mediterranean warmth — and nestled between pine-covered hills and the azure sea — The Margi is a true jewel of the Athenian coast, offering moments of pure indulgence and serene escape. Here, every moment invites you to slow down, savour, and reconnect.
