The Leinster, a true masterpiece of hospitality, seamlessly combines luxury, art, and culture to redefine the concept of a luxury lifestyle hotel in Dublin. As the city's first of its kind, it has quickly risen to prominence as one of the city's most striking and talked-about destinations.

Words by Leigh Maynard.

Nestled in the heart of Merrion Square, The Leinster is in perfect company among Dublin's iconic Georgian architecture, world-class galleries, and renowned museums. Its prime location at the centre of the city's cultural quarter makes it an unparalleled choice for both leisure and business travellers eager to experience Dublin's rich heritage.

The Leinster is the product of a visionary collaboration between architectural firms ODAA and Henchion Reuter Architects, and the esteemed interior design studio O Donnell O Neill Design. From the moment guests arrive, the warm and attentive reception sets the stage for an exceptional stay. The hotel’s interiors are nothing short of breathtaking, with artful designs and intricate patterns adorning every surface, from floor to ceiling, creating an immersive visual experience.

Even the elevators at The Leinster are elevated to an art form, featuring exquisite walnut panelling that sets the tone as they guide you to the hotel’s 55 bedrooms and suites –– each a sanctuary of luxury and comfort. A mirrored hallway, itself a striking installation, leads the way, adorned with carefully curated artworks from over 80 accomplished artists. The hotel proudly showcases a collection of 300 pieces, including works by Melissa O'Donnell, Paris-based artist Colette Riet, and the modern master Damien Hirst.

As you step into your room, the aesthetic experience continues. What greets you can only be described as sumptuous. During our stay in the twin corner room, we were captivated by the natural light flooding in through double-aspect windows, enlivening the space and accentuating the warm jewel tones. The design seamlessly blends Art Deco and French influences, with French blue doors, Wedgwood blue accents, plush velvet chairs and footstools inviting relaxation.

A well-stocked bar, featuring a selection of spirits in ornate bottles as captivating as the setting itself, adds an extra layer of indulgence. For those seeking a simpler option, the mini bar offers a curated selection of lighter tipples. Attention to detail is truly The Leinster's raison d'etre, and it’s perfectly exemplified in the thoughtful mini jars provided in each room. These thoughtful touches contain essentials and treats for various needs: one for lovers, another to promote restful sleep, an S.O.S. jar for minor emergencies, and even a remedy for those who may have partied a little too hard, complete with a hangover cure.

One of our favourite features in the bedroom was the cushioned window seats, offering a cosy nook to relax and browse the thoughtfully curated selection of art books. The bathroom continues the theme of indulgence, featuring Asian-inspired décor, an ornate sink with a silver vanity kit, and a pièce de résistance –– a state-of-the-art toilet with a heated seat, auto-flushing, and customisable luxury settings for the ultimate lavatory experience.

The culinary experience at The Leinster reaches new heights –– literally and figuratively –– at Jean-Georges, the hotel's rooftop restaurant perched on the fifth floor. This dining destination prides itself on its innovative concept that seamlessly intertwines Irish classics with fresh French and Southeast Asian flavours, all with a focus on locally sourced ingredients.

Enjoy your meal with views overlooking the city or in cosy floral booths flanked by olive trees. For breakfast, we opted for the avocado toast, artfully decorated with pea shoots, juicy cherry tomatoes, and a wedge of lime that added zest to each bite. The steel-cut Irish oatmeal, topped with cinnamon, golden raisins, bananas, and berries, was also tempting.

Dinner at Jean-Georges further cemented its reputation for excellence. The restaurant was fully booked, and its inviting ambiance — marked by low lighting and sumptuous furnishings — offered the perfect balance of elegance and warmth. We began with burrata, paired beautifully with fig jam, aged balsamic, olive oil, and a hint of tarragon. For the main course, we savoured the delicious Celeriac Francese, complemented by tender leeks, Calabrian chili, and rose, alongside a side of market carrots roasted with garlic and paprika. The desserts were a challenge to choose from, each a modern twist on a classic favourite. Highlights included the cinnamon apple pie served with a refreshing green apple sorbet and the spiced pumpkin crème brûlée with tangy pomegranate sorbet. Each dish felt like a culinary treasure, and the experience was elevated by our excellent waiter, Hugo, whose attentive service was the proverbial cherry on top.

For those looking to enjoy a little indulgence with live music, The Collins Club on the ground floor is the perfect spot. With its beautiful baby grand piano, warm, red-panelled walls, and a flawless fusion of modern flair and thirties glamour, it’s an enchanting setting. Sip on expertly crafted cocktails as you enjoy your supper, all set to a DJ soundtrack that carries into the early hours — an effortless way to enjoy a night out with the convenience of a short journey ‘home’ afterwards.

Although our stay at The Leinster was just one night, it left an indelible mark on us. An experience that truly engages all the senses, it made such an impression that we couldn’t help but share it — with friends, family, and anyone who appreciates art, excellence, and exceptional service. The Leinster isn't just located in the heart of Ireland; it is a part of its vibrant pulse.
