QUARANTINE DIARIES with : SARA DIJKINK

Facetime photographed by Mathieu Puga. Words by Charlotte Coquelin.

Could you introduce yourself in a few words?

I am Sara Dijkink a 20-year-old girl from the Netherlands.

How long have you been modeling for?

I was scouted when I was 14 years old and did my first exclusive runway show when I was 15 for Louis Vuitton. It was such an amazing experience!

Where are you isolating and with who?

I am isolating in my hometown in Holland with my boyfriend.

What is your number one way to pass the time during the quarantine?

Just before quarantine, I bought a house in my hometown. It has a big roof terrace that needed to be renovated. It’s quite nice to be able to focus on that.

Did you improve your cooking skills? Could you share with us your best recipe?

I already cooked every day, but I did learn how to make a nice wok with shrimps. I marinade the shrimps in garlic and hot chili sauce. Then I wok the shrimps with the vegetables in a sweet and sour sauce. Serve with basmati rice, fried onions, and emping. It’s very simple but turns out to be one of my favorite meals.

What do you do to stay sane?

I FaceTime or Skype a lot with my friends and family. It’s very important for me to stay in contact with the people I love. It keeps me grounded and gets me through the day.

Have you done any new form of isolation shoots?

This was my first time doing a FaceTime shoot. All though it was different from the way a shoot normally goes, it thought it was a very nice and new experience.

What is the first place you want to visit once the world opens back up?

I really want to visit my grandpa and grandma. We tried to explain to them how a video call works, but it’s a bit too difficult for them to understand. Sometimes they figure it out, but it still doesn’t feel the same when we can't see and hug each other in real life.

Do you think the world will ever be the same?

I am not sure. But I do hope people are going to appreciate the little things in life more.

Top 3 movies?

1. Call Me by Your Name

2. Shutter Island 3. Inception
