A Masterpiece of Danish Design and Hospitality

Copenhagen, an island and beacon of Scandinavian taste and minimalism, is the Nordic capital that always springs to mind when considering beautiful design. The Danes are masters of aesthetics, evident in every street, shop, and detail. Nobis Hotel Copenhagen, the first of the Swedish luxury hospitality group's hotels outside its home country, is located in a historic building on Niels Brocks Gade 1, next door to the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum and the famed Tivoli Gardens. A flagship of the Nobis Hospitality Group, the hotel immediately filled us with a sense of coming home. With interiors curated by revered Swedish architect Gert Wingårdh, Nobis Hotel Copenhagen offers the same concept of modern five-star luxury as its Stockholm predecessor. With 75 carefully curated rooms and four suites housed within a landmark building erected in 1903, it is a prime example of Danish classicism adeptly fused with a contemporary aesthetic. Once home to the Royal Danish Academy of Music, its lofty ceilings and sweeping staircases add a sense of grandeur and allude to its cultural past.

Our junior suite, nestled at the heights of the mansard roof, exemplified the artful Scandinavian approach to interior décor, with each item carefully selected to echo the building's clean lines. Butter-soft mid-century modern chairs in warm caramel popped against muted blue-green walls, whilst monochromatic rugs punctuated the parquet floors. Art books and well-loved botanicals were thoughtfully placed around the room, lending the suite a minimalism with soul — reaffirmed by the selection of artisanal teas, a Nespresso machine, a fully stocked fridge, and mini-bar snacks including exotic salt potato chips, fruits, and nuts. Our favourites were the delicious Kolsvart confectionary from Malmö.

If the room was not impressive enough, the bathroom delivered the show-stopping element. Its spacious dimensions, clad in grey Bardiglio marble from Italy — complete with a marble bench, thoughtfully arranged plush white robes, and slippers — felt like a personal spa. The eye was immediately drawn to sculptural accents such as the expansive circular mirror and the modernist stone bathtub, which added an elegant architectural presence. Amenities included aromatic soap and body wash in Byredo's Bal d'Afrique.  Perhaps our favourite detail, however, was the subtle yet unforgettable scent by Copenhagen-based skincare brand NUORI — one to indulge in during your stay and impossible to forget thereafter.

Restaurant NOI takes the hotel architecture in another direction. Situated in a 1960s annexe, it is a modern homage to Le Corbusier's La Tourette Dominican Monastery from the late 1950s. Breakfast in this airy and dynamic environment is sure to ignite guests’ energy and imagination for the day — that and the extra-spicy ginger shot! The choice was ample, including boiled eggs, fresh vegetables, crispy bacon, jams, bread, various pastries, salads, and fresh juices. The scrambled eggs were a standout – soft, creamy, and scrumptious!

For dinner, Restaurant NOI — led by Chef de Cuisine Fredrik Sandberg — has earned a first-class reputation among guests and visitors alike. Sourcing ingredients from abundant Danish farmland, dishes include trout, venison, shellfish roe, berries, and mushrooms, taken from nature and reimagined under the hotel’s signature contemporary culinary philosophy.

The ground-level sauna — an elevated version of our bathroom with a cold pool and gym — offers a place to pause and relax on the hot stone marble hamam piece, catering to guests’ every whim as they work out or unwind. From the warm greeting we received upon arrival to our friendly conversation at check-out , Nobis Copenhagen felt like staying with family. If there is one quote that exemplifies the hotel's warm, inviting approach, it is from CEO Alessandro Catenacci, who explains: "Intuitive service is a cliché, but we really want to inspire our staff to use their own judgement and temperament when serving our guests.

Nobis Copenhagen embodies an overarching sense of symbiosis, reflecting that carefully curated and world-renowned approach to exceptional design. Everything is thoughtfully placed and seamlessly coordinated here — from interiors to service, amenities to cuisine. Though relatively new to the Danish hospitality scene, Nobis Copenhagen is a hotel the Danes can be proud of.
