In our latest 'Faces of Fashion' we meet Meika Woollard to talk about her travelling passion, her career, fashion icons, or social media. When did you start modelling?
I started modelling when I was only three years old, so I was basically born into the industry. Modelling is like second nature to me now.
How did you get discovered?
When I was younger, my mother would always get stopped in shopping centers, grocery stores and just while walking down the street by people telling her that her two daughters should model. After a while, a lady who ran a brand saw my sister and adored her. My mum took me along to the photoshoot and they ended up liking us both and putting us both in the shoot!
What has been your career highlight so far?
My career highlights would be the Travel! I love to travel and it’s definitely a bonus with modelling, I’ve been to Korea, U.S.A. and many other places for modelling jobs! Meeting new people and forming some very close friendships with like-minded people is another bonus. I’ve always loved getting my hair and makeup done and dressing up glamorous too!
Do you enjoy being in Sydney?
Yes! I have a lot of great friends in Sydney that I’ve met through photoshoots! Sydney is great for modelling and there are so many amazing people I still want to work with! Maybe one day I’ll move there for a while. The sun seems to always be out in Sydney, and I enjoy sitting on Bondi beach getting a tan!
What is your next ideal work destination?
I’d love to work in Paris! That is a dream, I’ve never been to Paris, but the girls I know who have been said that they adored it! All the photos and pictures I’ve seen of Paris look incredible, they have a great modelling industry there too! Hopefully, when the borders open I can get on the first plane there! I can’t wait! Have you worked in other countries before?
Yes! My favourite was South Korea! I went on a 50 day trip by myself flying all the way from Australia. It was such a great trip and I grew so much emotionally and mentally. I learnt so many new things and I got to experience Korean culture. I had a translator with me full time on jobs so that I could properly understand the Koreans and do as they asked. The people there are so wonderful and kind. I am so grateful for this amazing trip and I will never forget it. I obtained friends I will never forget.
What would be your dream job?
One day I would love to be on the cover of Vogue, ever since I was little I would look at the people on the cover of the magazine in ore. They are all so beautiful, that’s the dream!
How much time per day do you spend on Social Media?
Maybe 3 to 4 hours... between TikTok, Instagram and Facebook it can get time-consuming! I love posting my content because my followers like seeing it. My favourite thing ever is when I see models recreating a certain photoshoot that I’ve done and tagging me as inspiration, my heart always feels so happy!
What is your favourite social media platform and why?
Instagram because it’s like a photo album of all your favourite things, in my case photoshoots! I’ve built a platform full of people who love fashion, photography, modelling, makeup, styling, hairstyles and more! I’m so lucky to have my followers by my side every step of my journey.
Any favourite fashion icons?
Taylor Hill is the fashion icon I look up to, she’s worked with all the top brands and walked many shows, and she still looks like the nicest person ever. Ever since I was a little girl I have idolised Taylor Hill, I think she is so beautiful. You can tell she values her family more than anything in the world. She looks like she can have a lot of fun too!
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
I want to travel the world modelling, and hopefully, I’ll end up living in New York City. I’m taking every job I get as a blessing and hoping for the best for my future. Let’s see where the journey takes me!
