InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace, a property from IHG Hotels & Resorts, pioneered the way for historical and luxurious household-named hotels to occupy the iconic Via Veneto.
Words by Sandy Aziz.
Situated in the heart of downtown, the street is famously known for its glamour and cinematic history, and serves as a crossroads for global talent in the creative industry. Our visit to InterContinental’s Via Veneto establishment is fitting, as our exclusive editorial work focuses on a brand that represents the Roman pinnacle of glamour: FENDI.
As we enter the lobby, we instantly admire the grand marble staircase and gold-coffered ceilings. Staying true to its mantra of “personalized service with distinctive details,” the guest check-in experience is inviting with its double black marble podiums rather than the conventional and often intimidating long check-in counters.
The blend of classic and contemporary themes persists as we step into our room. Here, a sense of simple sophistication via the accented Van Deusen Blue panelled walls, herringbone-finished floors and oatmeal-coloured curtains. We soon discover another unexpected oasis – our very own spacious terrace adorned with leafy trees for privacy and tranquillity. After admiring our home for the next few days, we naturally make our way to Anita Lounge & Bar (named after the notoriously glamorous Anita Ekberg) for our first nightcap cocktail.
The next morning, we head to the luxurious dining area lined with red plush chairs and towering beige marble-coated columns. The delectable breakfast buffet prepares us for the editorial workday ahead, featuring various local Italian cheeses, fresh fruit, mini jars of Nutella and a honeycomb panel providing fresh local honey. Notably, the hotel is also home to the trendy NYC staple restaurant, Scarpetta, which offers an upscale handmade pasta menu.
Due to the hotel’s friendly atmosphere, we quickly befriend the fashionably dressed doorman, sporting his ivory, three-piece suit and matching top hat. Not only does he kindly cart our unreleased FENDI collection in and out of the grand lobby, but he does so while cracking jokes and with a smile on his face. Despite its household name, it is experiences like these that earmark the desirable small-town hospitality feel InterContinental Rome offers its guests.
Our admiration for InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace only deepens when we return to the hotel after our second full day of shooting to the coveted Charlie’s Rooftop. The charismatic bar overlooks the Eternal City and features an array of refreshing craft cocktails. Appropriately, we opt for the aptly-named ‘Good Time Charlie.’
Overall, our memorable stay at this idyllic hotel confirms that all roads do lead to Rome.
