Huishan Zhang Fall Winter 2024 Collection. London, 16 February 2024.

Huishan Zhang's Fall Winter 2024 collection conjures up a glamorous cinematic world at the legendary Banqueting House, the perfect opulent setting. Guests witnessed stunning contrasts between tailored elegance and sensual drama inspired by icons Ingrid Bergman and Anna Magnani.

Creative director Huishan Zhang immerses us in the era of these 1950s starlets, whose explosive love triangle rocked Hollywood. The collection celebrates the opposition of Bergman's polish and Magnani's earthy glamour through repeated silhouettes echoed in innovative fabrics. Crisp shirting nods to Bergman whilst faux fur evokes Magnani's signature. Sharp recycled wool tailoring is softened by waist ties and tulle embroidery. A leather trench and corseted jacket merge masculine and feminine codes. Zhang's artistry shines through embroidered tweed and flock polka dots.

The venue provides a fittingly lavish backdrop, its Baroque details and soaring ceilings echoing the grandeur of classic cinema. Models emerge in eveningwear merging old Hollywood with modern edge through neoprene lace gowns and jewel-adorned organza. Metallic crashed gabardine and swathes of pleated tulle complete the cinematic vision.

As Zhang reflects, "Oppositions and contrasts become dynamically fused." Fantasy mixes with reality as innovative fabrics interpret timeless 1950s silhouettes. While the clothes seem effortlessly elegant, intricate craftsmanship granted weight behind the scenes through hand embroidery and pleating.

This collection revels in revealing the hidden details, creating an atmosphere of refinement and allure. It's a tribute to Zhang's team and an homage to Bergman and Magnani, showing fashion's power to convey cinematic narratives. Huishan Zhang presents an escape into retro romance at the legendary Banqueting House.
