"The goal is always to create a visual that is compelling enough to evoke excitement — images that make the viewer pause, save, and revisit them, not just flip or scroll past. The ‘Caleb & Gladys’ subject embodies strength, confidence, and an allure of mystery."

Caleb and Gladys met 12 years ago in Singapore. At the time, they were both working as photographers — direct competitors often vying for the same clients. The photography scene in Singapore is relatively small, with many creatives in the same age group knowing each other. A mutual friend introduced them, and they quickly began crossing paths at industry events.

After becoming a couple, they realised that teaming up made more sense than competing — not just professionally, but personally too. "We were both still experimenting with our individual styles, so coming together gave us the opportunity to refine and solidify our creative vision," Caleb explains. "It’s been an exciting journey, and having both the male and female gaze shaping our work has brought a fresh and dynamic perspective to every shoot."

This fusion of perspectives has defined their approach. “Having both viewpoints come together really creates a dynamic that’s fresh and unexpected," Gladys says. "We can seamlessly switch between the roles of photographer and creative director, which gives us the flexibility to bring both technical skill and artistic storytelling into every shot."

They are widely recognised for their bold use of colour and their ability to capture both sensuality and strength. "We want to create imagery that captivates," Gladys shares, "images that make people pause, save, and revisit — not just flip or scroll past. It’s about showing strength and allure in a way that feels natural and powerful."

Growing up in Singapore, both Caleb and Gladys had formative experiences that shaped their creative paths. Gladys, whose parents discouraged her from pursuing art, initially followed the traditional route of studying economics. But deep down, she always knew her calling was in the arts. “It took me four years in college to admit to myself that this wasn’t the life I wanted," she reflects. "I took a risk and started interning at a photography studio, not knowing where it would lead. But I knew if I didn’t at least try, I’d regret it."

For Caleb, photography was a constant presence. "My grandfather was a photographer who worked with British officers in Singapore after World War II," he recalls. "I grew up surrounded by cameras and film, and from a young age, I was hooked. It wasn’t just about taking portraits — it was about using photography to tell stories and capture moments."

As their careers evolved, both found themselves pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion photography — especially in how they portrayed women’s sensuality and power. "We focus on creating a space where our subjects feel comfortable enough to express themselves freely," Caleb says. "It’s about capturing their true essence, not forcing a specific image. It’s [about] empowering them to show their own unique energy, whether that’s quiet strength or more assertive confidence.”

Cultural identity plays a huge role in their work, particularly through the lens of their Singaporean heritage. "In Singapore, art wasn’t seen as a viable career," Gladys shares. "My parents thought I’d end up with no real job. But it made me more determined to carve my own path. Now, I approach every shoot with that same rebellious spirit."

Their relocation to New York opened new doors and expanded their creative horizons. "New York has exposed us to such a wide variety of beauty standards and cultural influences," Gladys says. "Collaborating with artists from all over the world has broadened our understanding of fashion and beauty — and challenged us to look at things from different perspectives." Caleb adds, "We’re excited to be a part of the movement that is reshaping the way Asian beauty is represented."

Their work often explores themes of escapism and fantasy, inspired by storytelling techniques used by iconic photographers such as Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, and Tim Walker. "We create worlds that transport the viewer [and] evoke excitement and wonder," Caleb explains. "Fashion is a playground for creativity. It’s not just about the clothes — it’s about telling a story that resonates."

For aspiring photographers hoping to incorporate diverse cultural elements into their work, Caleb and Gladys offer this advice: "Don’t be afraid to experiment, even if it feels different from what’s been done before. It’s easy to fall into the trap of following trends, but true creativity comes from being authentic. Embrace your unique perspective and trust that your work will resonate with others."

Ultimately, the most memorable art comes from the courage to be different and to stay true to what excites and inspires you. Looking ahead, Caleb and Gladys are eager to explore the intersection of AI and traditional photography. "AI is a tool that can enhance our creative process, especially when we face challenges like limited access to locations,"Gladys says. "It’s not about replacing the human touch — it’s about empowering creativity. We’re already experimenting with it, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us."

With their dynamic approach to fashion photography and their fearless pursuit of bold, fresh ideas, Caleb and Gladys are undoubtedly on the cusp of something exciting. "The most important thing is to always stay true to ourselves and keep pushing the boundaries," Caleb concludes. "That’s what keeps the work exciting and meaningful."
