BORA AKSU FW20

Bora Aksu Fall Winter 2020 Collection. London, 17th February 2020.

For Fall Winter 2020, Bora Aksu draws inspiration from one of the most pioneering abstract artists, Hilma af Klint. In a Collection dedicated to the Swedish artist, Bora creates garments that reflect Klint's contrasting life; her day-to-day life in the Victorian era as an artist creating traditional works, polarized with her abstract self-journey delving into the spiritual world. Hilma's layering techniques was also another inspiration source. To create the layering effect, Bora has designed very specific embroideries, prints and textures, combining them with romantic lines and shapes whilst keeping a distinct softness, mimicking the balance achieved in Hilma's work, life and character. Capes in tulle and organza are also part of this collection, bringing in an ethereal feel.

The mixture of vibrant colors represents Hilma af Klint's abstract self, whilst the use of black and white reflects her public persona. Bora's use of both, soft feminine drapes and structured shapes, add a sense of romance to the collection, whilst upholding strength with bold silhouettes. Dominant tones of lilac, orange and yellow are paired together with quieter shades of white cream, soft blues and pinks. The ongoing collaboration with Linda Farrow, and partnerships with Halo&Co jewellery bring an overall strong edge to this collection.
